She began her address by thanking Uponor and Anders Tollsten, executive vice president of Uponor North America, for hosting the annual event. She gave recognition to Uponor North America as the Apple Valley Chamber of Commerce 2007 Business of the Year, and noted the contributions the company has made to the city’s growth, including several expansions to the corporate headquarters facility over the past decade.

Hamman-Roland continued her address focusing on the new, sustainable building in Apple Valley, as well as future developments to ensure the city remains one of America’s “Best Places to Live”, as stated by Money magazine’s 28th ranking.

“We are creating a strong and prosperous community for people to thrive in and enjoy now and for future generations,” Hamman-Roland said. “Apple Valley is a great city to live in and work, and we want to continue this sustained livability for a lifetime.”

She stated Apple Valley is the leader in Dakota County for commercial building, with 118 permits issued for 2008, and that the residential sector is also doing well with 92 permits for new dwelling units. She also remarked on additional expansions and developments that included the expansion to the Uponor North America corporate headquarters.

Hamman-Roland stated several new buildings in Apple Valley are being designed and built using green products and methods to help sustain and protect our natural resources, and some are even receiving LEED™ or Green Globes™ certification for green and sustainable building practices.

“I would like Apple Valley to be known as a green and sustainable community,” she said. “With all the growth we are experiencing, we need to think long-term to ensure support of the natural resources in our city and our environment.”

She also took time to honor various community leaders, including Lee Ehmke, director of the Minnesota Zoo; the late Bob Erickson, for his 25-year dedication to the city of Apple Valley; and Representative Dennis Ozment, for his 24-year dedication to cities in the northern half of Dakota County.

She concluded her address by thanking City Council members John Bergman, Thomas Goodwin, Ruth Grendahl and Sharon LaComb as well as several Chamber leaders and many other key city, state and government leaders.

Tollsten stated that hosting the annual State of the City address was an honor for Uponor.

“We are very pleased about the recognition from the Apple Valley Chamber of Commerce,” said Tollsten. “Receiving their 2007 Business of the Year Award and hosting the Mayor’s State of the City address brings a whole new level of pride to Uponor and its dedicated employees.”

After the address, attendees participated in a tour of the Uponor North America corporate headquarters’ manufacturing facility.
